Hollywood Couple Victims Of Racial Profiling In South Carolina

A black Hollywood couple we didn’t even know existed say they were victims of racial profiling in South Carolina (surprise, surprise). You might remember Cherie Johnson as Laura’s friend on the show Family Matters and Dennis White as the guy who played D-Roc (Biggie’s friend who took the gun charge for him) in the Biggie movie Notorious. The irony that this all took place while they were looking at some cotton fields is unreal. Some things just never change SMH…

Hollywood couple Cherie Johnson and Dennis White they were improperly stopped by police, put in handcuffs and harshly questioned during a recent weekend getaway in South Carolina. They claim the incident took place because of their race.

Johnson, best known for her roles in TV shows “Punky Brewster” and “Family Matters,” and White, from the movie “Notorious,” are speaking out about their treatment by a Marion County sheriff’s deputy on September 22.

“I’ve been stopped by the police before, but I’ve never been fearful for my life,” Johnson told CNN on Sunday. “They need some kind of sensitivity training.”

The Marion County sheriff issued a statement on Monday promising to investigate the allegations of racial profiling.

The couple, who were in the area after conducting an acting workshop in North Carolina, shared White’s account with freelance writer Krystol Diggs, who posted it to CNN iReport. CNN could not independently verify their account but spoke directly to Johnson and Diggs about the incident.

Johnson and White say they were on their way to Myrtle Beach for a quick romantic getaway when they pulled off the rural highway and parked by a cotton field. Johnson said she had never seen cotton before and told White she wanted to take a picture.

As the couple walked back to the car, they said, they noticed a police car with its lights on parked behind theirs. White and Johnson, who are both African-American, say the white officer harshly questioned them about drugs — he found none — and the cash he found in their bags.

Johnson was the national cheer representative for the Just Say No to Drugs campaign in the ’80s.

According to White’s account, Officer Shad Barfield told Johnson there was a warrant for her arrest, which she disputed, and the officer later recanted. He handcuffed White and then Johnson but did not arrest them.

“He told me … I was being detained for his safety because he didn’t know me,” Johnson said.

“At this time I became distraught,” White wrote in his account of the incident. “I have been racially profiled several times in my lifetime but it touched my core when my woman was included.”

Marion County Sheriff Mark Richardson issued a statement on Monday in regard to the actors’ claims: “Discrimination in any form, including racial profiling, is strictly prohibited by this department and as Sheriff of Marion County SC, I can assure you I will take immediate and appropriate action to investigate the allegations of racial profiling made by Mr. White and Ms. Johnson. This matter will be dealt with by an internal investigation within the department and I will also ask the State Law Enforcement Division to review the allegation made against Deputy Barfield.”

It was Johnson’s first experience being handcuffed. Several of her family members work in law enforcement, Johnson said, adding that she’s “never been afraid of cops or had bad opinions of them.”

This time was different.

After thoroughly searching the car, the officer removed the handcuffs and let the couple go.

“No apology, no nothing,” White wrote.

White says he won’t stop talking about the incident until “that racist cop” is reprimanded and punished.

“At no point in history is this justified, especially not in this day and age,” he wrote.

By Monday morning, the story had received nearly 700,000 views — making it the fourth most-viewed iReport of all time — and hundreds of comments about racial profiling and law enforcement in South Carolina and elsewhere. Many readers said they had experienced similar situations.

Actress Kinnik Sky was among those who shared the story on her Facebook page. Sky, who was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, said she knew White and Johnson’s account “to be absolutely true.”

“I was like, ‘Wow, boy can I relate,’ because I am fearful of the cops as a whole, especially in South Carolina. My experiences have always been horrible.”

The former “American Idol” finalist said whenever she returns from Los Angeles to her hometown she gets stopped by police “80% of the time” and questioned about drugs. On a recent trip she was “stopped, pulled over and questioned about every drug known to man,” she said.

Her account is strikingly similar to what Johnson and White said they experienced. Johnson said she contacted Marion County for an incident report but was told that one was never filed. In the meantime, she’s voicing her views on Twitter and Facebook so others can know what she and White went through.

“I’ve always been a fan of speaking up and sharing your story,” Johnson said. “We’re way more powerful in numbers than we are alone.” – cnn

Shots Fired! 50 Cent Says Ray J Hit Floyd Mayweather’s Girl First, Floyd Responds

Just when you thought the feud between former BFFs 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather was over, 50 pulls a …well..a 50! 50 threw a seemingly out of the blue shot on Instagram at Floyd and posted some pics (below) accusing Floyd’s Money Team partner, Ray J, of sleeping with Floyd’s current girlfriend. Damn Ray…first Kanye’s girl, now Floyd’s…who didn’t Ray J hit first? To add more insult to injury, 50 referred to Floyd’s girl as a Thot. For those that don’t know, a Thot is the new word in the hood for calling someone a hoe, jump-off, slut, etc. Some even claim that T.H.O.T is an acronym for That Hoe Over There. Being that Ray J is part of Floyd Mayweather’s Money Team, 50 definitely put Ray J in an awkward position with this one. Floyd didn’t take too kindly to 50 Cent’s posts and posted a response (below) of his own basically comparing 50 Cent to trash in the garbage. Damn fellas..it was all good just a little while ago!?

He followed that up with these two pics of Floyd’s mistress:

Oprah Winfrey Says She’ll Never Marry Stedman

If you’ve ever wondered if or when one of the richest women in the world, Oprah Winfrey, would ever get married, you now have your answer. Oprah let Shaun Robinson of Access Hollywood know that marriage is definitely not happening in her lifetime. Damn…my plan to eliminate Stedman, marry Oprah and take over the world just hit a major roadblock..smh…

Will you leave this earth as a never married woman?

Yes.

That’s your final answer?

*laughs* You’re good. You didn’t just come with no red carpet questions. That’s my final answer. I think it’s really interesting that you would ask it because I thought about it again at Tina Turner’s wedding because Tina [said], ‘Oprah, you need to do this.’ Well it took [her] until 75 to do it. Now you’re telling me I need to do it. I was just thinking, would things really be different? I don’t think so. I think my final answer is I’m gonna leave this earth as a never married woman, and that’s really okay with me. Stedman would tell you Shaun, if you ever interviewed him, he would tell you [that] had we married, we would not be together.

Really? Why is that?

Because he’s a traditional man and this is a very untraditional relationship. I think it’s acceptable as a relationship, but if I had the title ‘wife,’ hmmmm. I think there would be some other expectations of what a wife is and what a wife does. First of all you gotta come home sometimes.*laughs hysterically* I think it’s time for this interview to end.

What do you think about Oprah saying she’ll never marry Stedman or any other man for that matter? Has the institution of marriage become outdated for today’s modern women?

Little Miss Hispanic Delaware Stripped of Her Crown Because She’s Not Latina Enough

A little girl by the name of Jakiyah McKoy, 7, was beyond thrilled when she won the title of Little Miss Deleaware only to be left devastated when pageant officials stripped her of her title for not being Latina enough:

Little Miss Hispanic Delaware has been stripped of her title — for not being Latina enough.

Jakiyah McKoy, 7, has been left devastated after pageant sponsors Nuestras Raices Delaware ruled there was no proof she had at least 25% Latina blood.

Her family claims a grandparent was from the Dominican Republic — but without any documentation, the distraught beauty queen had to forfeit her crown.

The McKoys are now claiming it is the girl’s darker skin — and not a lack of documentation — that is the reason her reign was cut short.

The claim led Daniel Jose Older to set up a Change.org petition.

A petition in support of Jakiyah McKoy claims that the teeny beauty queen is being investigated because she is of African descent as well as Dominican.

Change.org

A petition in support of Jakiyah has been started online.

“Nuestras Raices Delaware has blocked her win after an outcry from people claiming that, because she is black, she is ‘not the best representative of Latin beauty,'” he wrote.

“The title is now pending while the committee ‘investigates’ Jakiyah’s heritage. Meanwhile, none of the other competitors were subject to such an investigation,” he added.

Nuestra Raices President Maria Parez, however, denied the allegations of racism.

“Color has nothing to do with it,” she told Latino Rebels. “We’re all Latinos. That’s why we’re so beautiful because we come in all different colors.”

“Her parents were asked to bring in documentation. Of all of the documentation brought in there’s nothing to confirm Dominican heritage,” she added. – via DailyNews

Pageant officials really should have had all the required nationality paperwork already situated  so something like this wouldn’t have happened. Now that poor little girl is caught up in this mess SMH…

Aaron Hernandez’s Girlfriend Gets Indicted In Murder Case

Aaron Hernandez’s girlfriend, Shayanna Jenkins, has been indicted on a perjury charge in connection with the killing of Odin Lloyd.  She joins three others who are also facing charges in the case including Hernandez’s cousin, Tanya Singleton. Singleton was indicted on a charge of conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact and two Hernandez associates, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace were each indicted on a single count of accessory to murder after the fact.

Prosecutors say Jenkins has been lying from the get-go, telling them she went to bed early on the night of the shooting and was unaware of Hernandez whereabouts on the night of the murder. However, surveillance cameras around the home shows Jenkins opening the door for Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz at the house when they came to pick up Hernandez and take Lloyd for a ride.

shayanna-jenkins-janice-bassil-8689650b9b630d06

Prosecutors also believe Jenkins was the person who ditched the murder weapon, a .45-caliber Glock that hasn’t been found,  and a .22-caliber weapon that was recovered near Hernandez’s home.

Lloyd was found shot to death in an industrial park in North Attleborough, Mass., near Hernandez’s home, where Jenkins also lives. Her sister had been dating Lloyd.
Hernandez was arrested and remains behind bars and held without bail accused of the June 17 murder of his friend,  27-year old Lloyd. He has plead not guilty to first-degree murder and weapons charges. His attorneys are most certain that the state won’t be able to prove the case during a jury trial and that Hernandez will be exonerated.

Against All Odds, A Mother of Four and One Of Her Sons Earn a PhD Together

Despite a rough start, a mother of four and one of her sons have made it to the top together. Goes to show you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Congratulations to the both of them!

Dr. Vickie McBride had Maurice at the young age of 13 followed by three more children. With the help of her own mother she continued to go to school and work. ”As a teenager I continued my education. That was never an option,” explained Vickie. ”I had to figure out how to work and how to parent and how to manage school all at the same time.”

By the time Maurice turned 16, with his mom balancing work and school, he started hanging with the wrong crowd and dropped out of high school. It took  stay at a juvenile probation facility for him to realize he had to turn his life around. He said, “I picked up the bible and I started reading and I was like it all makes sense. I see how it actually comes to fruition. I see how I ended up here.”

After obtaining his GED and signing a record deal with Capital Records, Maurice decided to take his education further by taking online college courses and landed a undergrad degree and a graduate degree becoming  professor at Paine College in Augusta, Ga.

Having a master’s degree wasn’t enough for the former high school drop out, he decided he wanted to take his education even further but wanted to do it as a team with his number one supporter- his mom.

After some talks and coercing from her son, Dr. Vickie McBride decided to take the PhD journey with her son. Vickie graduated with her PhD in K-12 Education and Maurice in Organizational Management from Capella University.

“Never in a thousand, million, trillion years [did I expect to get my PhD]. The thought of becoming a doctor anyone was far fetched,” said Dr. Maurice McBride.

This uplifting story shows how one should never allow their past to predict their future, both mom and son faced early struggles but used them as a tool to want and do better. – via rollingout.com

Rihanna BBC Interview Talks Ingstagram, People’s Perception of Her & Her “Bootleg Rockstar” Sex Life

While promoting the release of her new River Island Fall 2013 collection and Rogue perfume, Rihanna hit up BBC Studios in London for an interview with Alan Carr where she discussed what she enjoys about Barbados’ carnivals, Instagram selfies, and her non-existent sex life. Check out a few highlights of the interview or you can just watch it yourself below:

On whether her Instagram selflies are ever airbrushed

Nooo [Laughs].

On what she enjoys about carnivals in Barbados

Barbados carnival is a part of our culture and that’s how we dress, in as little as possible… and we just party. Party for miles on the road. We get a truck and then we get off and on and we… It’s fun. You just party for hours. All day long.

On whether she feels unhappy about the way people perceive her

It doesn’t piss me off because they don’t know me so well, so it’s easy for them to draw conclusions and its their right to. How can they know anything different? But I tried to be as honest with myself as possible. Be realistic with who I am and what I love to do and what makes me happy. And it’s not always partying, as a matter of fact, recently I’ve become like a square. I hate partying. I’ve been so bored with it. Maybe it’s because its the same music every night. I don’t know, y’all feel me? I don’t know, maybe we need some more DJ’s or something.

On being able to produce 7 albums in 7 years

You work hard and you play hard. I’ve definitely been working a lot in the last 8 years, its been a lot of hard work, but I love it. I love doing what I do. I have a lot to celebrate, so you will catch me celebrating every once in a while because I work hard. I love what I do and I put my focus into that. That’s my priority.

On how she feels about her number 1 albums

Its definitely exciting. It never will get old. Being number 1 never gets old. It actually puts a lot of pressure on you like. Its a challenge in itself. It keeps me busy but I love it. I love to challenge myself.

On her sex life

I am such a bootleg rockstar. I do nothing. I’m embarrassed to say that actually. That’s so disgusting. Its pathetic. I’m a bit of a square. Don’t feel bad for me, I’m good.

Rihanna also performed her new single “What Now”. Check it out:

Queens Bakery Fined for Telling Job Applicant: “I Can’t Hire You Because You’re Black”?

A young woman, Jamilah DaCosta, 25,  applied for a job working at the counter of a French back shop in Queens and claims she was blatantly told by the owner, “I can’t hire you because you’re black” among many other discriminatory statements.  The store owners denied Jamilah’s accusations but have already been ordered by a judge to pay Jamilah $10,000 in damages. Now many are divided and debating over whether or not Jamilah was telling the truth or just a disgruntled job applicant who successfully extorted money out of the bakery owners. Check out this story below and let us know what you think.

The Rego Park woman interviewed with co-owner Patty Meimetea in October 2011 but was told she wouldn’t be a good fit for the “counter girl” position because black workers in the front of the store would scare away customers, according to findings by the city Human Rights Commission.

After an investigation and a trial, the commission last week fined the bakery $25,000 for racial and gender discrimination for weeding out DaCosta because of her race and discouraging men from applying for the job with a gender-specific “counter girl” ad on Craigslist.

“I felt hurt. I was disgusted,” DaCosta said of her experience at Framboise Patisserie. “Before I could even pull out my resume or start a formal interview, she was telling me all this negative stuff — she couldn’t hire me because I was black, I would scare away her customers.”

According to DaCosta and the commission, when DaCosta came in for the interview, Meimetea quickly started quizzing her about her nationality. DaCosta said she was American, but after the owner pressed her, she said she was Jamaican and Lebanese, according to the decision.

Pearl Gabel for New York Daily News

She told DaCosta her husband would be angry if she hired a black worker for the counter — and said she would hire her if there were a job open in the kitchen, where no one would see her.

She also suggested applying for a job at another Queens bakery where bosses wouldn’t care what the workers look like — and told DaCosta to look at the pictures hanging around the bakery, pointing out they were all of white people.

A shaken DaCosta cried in her car after the disastrous interview.

“They’re not judging me on my personality, but my skin color. What century are we living in?” she said. “I thought I had thick skin, I thought I could withstand anything, but it just completely broke me down.”

The owners denied making racist remarks — and insist DaCosta is lying. “Of course this is not true,” Meimetea said in a brief interview.

Meimetea’s husband and co-owner AJ Saputhanthri said that DaCosta was not hired because the shop had already filled the position and added that DaCosta didn’t have the necessary experience.

“I can’t hire somebody who worked at McDonald’s,” he said. “She don’t even know what is the cookie dough.”

Saputhanthri added that he found any charges of racism absurd, because he himself is from Sri Lanka. “I want the human rights judge to look at me and tell me I look like a white,” he said.

Saputhanthri even accused DaCosta herself of racism, saying she assumed his wife, Meimetea, was racist because she looked white. Meimetea is Greek.

“It’s never true. I swear to you,” he said. “I respect everybody. I don’t do anything bad to people.”

“They want only money,” he said of city officials. “I’m a simple man living simple, working hard … They want to take my money away.”

The commission found the pair’s denials weren’t credible, noting they admitted they had never hired a black person or a man to work the counter in the three years they had been in business, though Saputhanthri said the bakery now has two black employees, including one at the counter.

“Respondents’ actions were blatant violations,” the commission wrote in its decision. “Meimetea’s statements to Ms. DaCosta were cruelly and flagrantly bigoted and demeaning.”

The $25,000 penalty the commission ordered the bakery to pay includes $10,000 in damages to DaCosta, a $10,000 fine for racial discrimination for the shop’s treatment of DaCosta, and a $5,000 fine for gender discrimination for the “counter girl” ad. – Via DailyNews

Dame Dash’s Son Arrested for Strangling His Girlfriend?

Former Roc-A-Fella Records music mogul and partner to Jay Z, Dame Dash, has a new problem on his hand and it ain’t his finances:

The son of former Roc-A-Fella records music mogul, Damon “Dame” Dash, was arrested Tuesday for strangling his girlfriend in Chelsea, authorities said.

Damon Dash II, 22, was charged with misdemeanor assault and strangulation for allegedly squeezing his girlfriend’s neck as they argued on Sept. 22 in his West 16th Street apartment.

“They had an apparent dispute over sex,” a law enforcement source told The Post of Dash-the-younger and his girlfriend.

“She was visiting him at his apartment, he got violent with her, starts to punch her, slap her and shove her onto the bed, got on top of her, he grabs her by the throat and chokes her,” the source said.

They briefly reconciled but then had another fight, at which point the victim called the cops, the source said.

Dash climbed on top of her and “placed both of [his] hands around [her] neck and squeezed tightly,” to the point where she had trouble breathing, according to the misdemeanor complaint against him.

At his arraignment on Wednesday, Dash signed an order of protection barring him from any contact with his alleged victim. He was released without bail.

“He did get physically violent with her,” the source added. “She suffered bruises, a black eye and a cut lip.” Her neck was left with red marks, the complaint alleges.

Dash Jr. has had one previous arrest but details of that case have been sealed. – NYPost

Racial Violence In the U.S. Getting Out of Control? N.C. Man Shoots 4 People Because They Are White

A black man who shot four people near a Greenville Wal-Mart in June says that he picked out his victims solely because they were white according to several indictments against him.

Lakim Faust had more than 100 rounds of ammunition when he started shooting at people who were standing outside at a law firm and a shopping center in June, authorities said.

A grand jury indicted Faust on 14 charges Monday, including four counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Faust, who is black, picked out his victims based on their race, according to the indictments. The documents didn’t specify why Faust wanted to shoot white people, and police have not talked about why he picked out his targets. Earlier reports had indicated that Faust was  shooting “indiscriminately.”

Police said Faust’s first victim on June 21 was an insurance adjustor in the parking lot of a law firm. He then crossed a five-lane highway and shot three more people in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart, investigators said.

Three of the four people wounded in the shooting suffered permanent and debilitating injuries, according to the indictments. Details of those injuries were not specified.

Faust, 23, was shot by police. He recovered and is now in jail.

Police seized computers and documents from Faust’s home that showed he had a plan for the attack and wanted to shoot a large number of people, investigators said. – Via CBS

If America doesn’t seriously address the racial tension in this country, we’re bound to continue to experience these types of situations on both sides of the color lines and they’re bound to get worse.

Paparrazi Gone Too Far? TMZ Harassing Kanye West Outside of Home at 4am In the Morning

I’m not the biggest fan of Kanye West and his childish rants as of lately, but after watching this video it does become more understandable as to why he hates the paparazzi so much. In this clip, TMZ cameramen are actually harassing him outside of his home at 4am in the morning and one of them even has the nerve to stop his garage door from closing so they could continue snapping pics! This would be extremely annoying for anyone to have to endure and they definitely need to set some guidelines as to what the paps are allowed to do BUT on the flip side, you knew this was the price of fame going in Kanye and you definitely knew what you were getting into when you wifed up Kim K. and became the newest member of  the Kardashian family, who are notorious publicity whores. I feel kind of bad for him for a second and then I remember, he made his bed so he has to lie in it.  Just build a protective wall, get some security dogs and a legally-licensed gun and I bet you won’t have any problems with the paps showing up at your crib again bruh!

*On a side note…did you see/hear that car he jumped into?! SMDH…I’d put up with the paps all day to make that kind of money!

Live By the Gun, Die By the Gun? 17-year-old Chief Keef Affiliate, L’A Capone, Shot & Killed in Chicago

An up-and-coming rapper/Chief Keef affiliate was shot and killed yesterday in Chicago in what many are calling a case of a “live by the gun, die by the gun” scenario because of the life L’A Capone was living at the time. Check out the official story and his video below:

A teen was killed and three men were injured in separate attacks on the South Side Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, police said.

The 17-year-old boy killed was shot this evening near 70th Street and Stony Island Avenue and pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital about 8:30 p.m. He was shot in the hip by someone who approached him on foot.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the boy as Leonard Anderson, of the 7200 block of South Bennett Street.

Chicago has been a war zone for a good minute now and something has got to be done about it! SMDH…

Rihanna & Teyana Taylor to Lose Endorsement Deals for Bullying & Mocking Domestic Violence During Their Twitter Feud?

Two petitions have been launched on Change.org urging major companies that endorse both Rihanna (Mac Cosmetics) and Teyana Taylor (Adidas) to revoke them of their advertising deals in the aftermath of the messy Twitter feud they had that we told you about earlier this week.  Rihanna has been accused of being a bully by anti-bullying advocates  and Teyana has been accused of mocking domestic violence just a few days before National Domestic Violence Awareness month (talk about bad timing!) by putting up a picture of Rihanna’s bruised face after the Chris Brown incident. There’s no word on if these petitions were started by people who were actually offended or by spiteful fans of the girls but they have been started. What do you think? Should these girls lose their respective endorsement deals because of their Twitter war?

This is an excerpt of the petition against Rihanna:

Petition1

This was the image Teyana Taylor put up on Twitter as a response to Rihanna which caught the attention of domestic violence advocates. Check out an excerpt of the petition below:

TTaylorSS

“Miss Taylor first (before the image above) started sending abusive and offensive tweets/retweets to Rihanna for over a period of 8 hours. This is not about RIHANNA, this is about all the ABUSED WOMEN of the world being MOCKED! IT IS A SHAME that ADIDAS seems to be endorsing @TEYANATAYLOR!

We demand that you do the right thing and terminate her contract and send a strong message to your consumers! Letting one of your sponsors mock a domestic violence victim discourages your female customers from speaking out against their abusers!!!”

Florida Grants Marissa Alexander a New Trial After Giving Her 20 yrs. for Firing Warning Shot At Abusive Husband

Marissa Alexander, the Florida woman who was sentenced to 20 years for firing a bullet at the ceiling because she was afraid of her abusive husband has been granted a new trial. Marissa was sentenced to 20 years despite pleading the Stand Your Ground law. No one was injured but it took only 12 minutes for the jury to convict her.

“We reject her contention that the trial court erred in declining to grant her immunity from prosecution under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law,” wrote Judge James H. Daniel, “but we remand for a new trial because the jury instructions on self-defense were erroneous.”

Alexander, who had given birth the week before, testified that after an altercation regarding texts from her ex-husband, she locked herself in the bathroom. Her husband Rico Gray broke through the door, grabbed her by the neck, and shoved her into the door. She ran to the garage, found she couldn’t get the door open, and returned with a gun. When Gray saw the gun, he said, “Bi**h, I’ll kill you.” Alexander testified that firing the gun into the air as a warning shot was “the lesser of two evils.”

The jury rejected her self-defense argument, and instead Alexander was sentenced under the “10-20-Life” law, which carries a series of mandatory minimum sentences related to gun crimes. The prosecutor in her case was Angela Corey, who also prosecuted George Zimmerman who was acquitted in the death of Trayvon Martin. After an outcry at the apparent racial double standard in the application of Stand Your Ground, Corey told the Washington Post, “I think social media is going to be the destruction of this country.”

The appeals court judge ruled that the lower court judge improperly put a burden on Alexander to prove that the firing was in self-defense. “The defendant’s burden is only to raise a reasonable doubt concerning self-defense,” Daniel wrote. “The defendant does not have the burden to prove the victim guilty of the aggression defended against beyond a reasonable doubt.” He ordered a retrial. A separate proceeding would determine whether Alexander could be released on bail pending that trial. – Via MSNBC

To anyone with any common sense, her 20 year sentence was obviously too harsh (we’re not even going to bring up what G. Zimmerman got away with) so we’re glad Marissa is getting a second chance at some type of justice.

Homeless Man Pushes NY Student in Front of Train Because “She Refused To Give Him Money”!?

This is a crazy, scary story that could’ve easily happened to anyone, especially if you live in NYC. Wednesday morning, a mentally deranged homeless man pushed a young student into an oncoming train after she refused to give him spare change. The young girl was run over by a train and now she’s left with extensive, horrific injuries all over her body. We wish the victim, Maya Leggat, a speedy recovery. This just serves as more proof that NY  has got to do something about all the nutcases running around!

Maya Leggat, 21, was allegedly shoved on to the tracks at White Plains station in New York after she refused to give money to a 39-year-old who lives in a shelter.

Shocked commuters described seeing her mangled legs on the tracks, and some followed the man and held him until police arrived.

Horror: A 21-year-old student was pushed under a train at White Plains in New YorkGary Waxman, who runs a news stand at the station, told CBS New York: ‘She refused to give him money and he pushed her in front of a train.’

He said the man was often seen in the station, and added: Fingers were gone, legs were mangled – that’s what I heard from police.’

Metro North railway police arrested Howard J Mickens who has been charged with attempted homicide.

Maya, who studies at Hunter College, was conscious when police arrived and was able to describe the attack.

An officer went on to the track and comforted the 21-year-old, who had been on her way to New York City, while they waited for an ambulance.

No passengers were on the train that hit the young woman. – Via DailyMail

14-Year-Old, Thessalonika Arzu-Embry, Graduates from Chicago State University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology!

We hear a lot of negative news regarding the youth in Chicago but this story is much different. We have to give a shout-out to 14-Year-Old, Thessalonika Arzu-Embry, for graduating from Chicago State University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology! The beautiful part about it is that her motivating mother even went to the same school! Congrats to both her and her mother for raising a wonderful, young girl with a bright future ahead of her.

The teen scholar was home-schooled from 8-11 years-old by her mother, Wonder Embry, a veteran of the United States Navy, and credits her with her academic achievement.

“My mother is a strong inspiration to my success,” said Thessalonika.

The dynamic duo are schoolmates, with the elder Embry working on her graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, and spend their days working out, studying and praying together.

“My college experience is a traditional college experience for me — it is just that I have completed it faster,” Thessalonika said. “I am very excited about joining others in having the opportunity to contribute to society in a significant way.”

As if graduating at such a young age isn’t achievement enough, Thessalonika has maintained a 3.9 GPA and serves as student senator. – Via NewsOne

DMX on Dr. Phil “I Have 11 Children and One On the Way & I’m $1.23 Million Behind in Child Support”

DMX hit up the Dr. Phil show yesterday and thank God it didn’t go as badly as it did on Iyanla Vanzant’s show. DMX was very honest, spoke well and had a pretty good rapport with Dr. Phil. He explained everything from his drug addiction issues to his reasoning behind having 11 kids by six different women with one on the way! Remember that DMX song, “What these b****es want from a n***a?” Well we finally found out the answer: child support! Check out the full interview and some highlights below:

On why he wouldn’t let Dr. Phil interview his mother
Me and my mother, we had a difficult start. She did the best that she could. Regardless of how rough our past was, we’re in a good place now. I don’t want anything to interfere with that. No questions, no bringing up the past,

On why he wanted to go on the “Dr. Phil” show
I just want people to get an honest perception. You get these little 10 second news segments, ‘Rapper DMX did this,’ and ‘Rapper DMX did that.’ Stop being negative.

On why he ran naked through a hotel hallway
It was a bet. It was a dare. The dare was order room service and run through the hallway naked. I’ll do that. It wasn’t about if it was a good or bad idea, it was just ‘I’ll do that.’

On if he was advised to not go on “Dr. Phil”
Yes I was because of the prior situation with Iyanla and you guys kind of fall under the Oprah umbrella and it’s like, ‘Don’t even do it, it’s not worth it,’ and I said, ‘You know what? I just need people to look at me as I speak and know who I am by what I say. Not by what you see in the newspaper and not by what you read.’ You can tell a lot by a person by looking them in their eyes.

On what he thinks were his biggest mistakes
I wouldn’t redo anything because it got me right here, where I’m at right now, and I’m in a good place. No regrets.

On his kids
[I have] 11 [children]. And one on the way.

Why are you having so many children?
I’m not having the children. I’m giving them the children. They’re well taken care of. I’m a big influence in all of their lives. I love all of my children. I do see them and speak to them when I can. I do have a relationship with my children. I love my children. I would never be apart [from] my children’s lives.

Doesn’t it get expensive?
Yes it does, and time consuming. If you can provide and be there for them, then you should have them.

Are you $1.23 million behind in child support?
Yes I am, and the reason being is at the time I was making $13 million a year. So, if I’m making $13 million then I can pay that, but I haven’t made that in about 10 years so of course I’m behind in payments, but the children are taken care of.

On his drug addiction problems
I’m always going to have a drug problem, I don’t have to get high. I smoke weed, I drink, yes. That’s it. One day that will be gone because like I said, my faith is in God. He’s not removing it all at once but I’m taking steps everyday to get better and to get where I need to be.

On if he thinks one day he’ll be smoking weed and drinking and he’ll go back to a dark place
That doesn’t worry me. God has a plan for me. Wherever I’m at is where God placed me at. If I need help getting up out of there, He’ll help me get up out of there. I’m not worried about where I’m at. […]Whatever has happened was supposed to happen.

On not living with regrets
I’m gonna say it one more time: I would not change one aspect of my life because it got me to where I am right now and I’m in a good place with God.

Phil: Well, I keep asking that because it doesn’t make sense.

It doesn’t have to make sense to you, it makes sense to me. And I’m the one living this life. And I’m walking this planet, and that’s why these people love me.

One thing I’ve learned is not to accept anybody’s belief about how they feel about me. Because if you believe what they tell you when you’re on top of the world and you’re the king, you’re gonna believe them when they tell you that you ain’t s–t. So it’s like, you know what? Appreciate the compliment if it’s a compliment, but I’m going to stick to what I believe about myself and I love me.

Parents Furious Teachers are Using “Big Pimpin” Jay Z Songs To Teach Students How To Become Successful

Looks like Chris Brown isn’t the only one who doesn’t understand how Jay Z gets a pass for his past lifestyle. Parents at a middle school in Southhaven, Miss. are upset that teachers are using Jay Z’s life and music to teach students how to become successful businessmen and entrepreneurs. Parents say that students spent three days learning about his “thug lifestyle” and even brought home some of his hit songs such as “Big Pimpin” to study as homework. If you were a parent to one of these children how would you feel about the course on Jay Z? Do you think Jay Z is an appropriate role model for kids or do the parents have a right to be upset?

Sixth graders at Desoto Central Middle School spent three days learning about one of the most successful hip-hop artists and entrepreneurs in the nation. They were also tested on their knowledge about Jay-Z’s “resilience.”

A parent, who had a son in the English class, reached out to me – and she’s fired up. The mad mom asked to remain anonymous over fears of repercussions. I was able to verify her claims and have agreed to provide anonymity.

“One of the songs listed on the paper that was brought home was ‘Big Pimpin’,” she told me. “Another song talked about thug life. My child was getting an education about thug life.”

She could not believe that her child was learning about a man who sings songs that degrade women and glorify the thug life.

“When he pulled out the paper in his backpack in the car, I called my husband right then,” she told me. “I was furious. We talked about it until late that night. My husband was about to blow his top.”

The parents then tried to contact the school to discuss the issue:

It’s really unfortunate that the school superintendent won’t talk to me about the assignment. I’d love to hear his side of the story.

I called the principal to get his side of the story, but he said he didn’t want to talk to me. Instead, he referred me to the superintendent’s office.

No answer.

Eventually, I was told to contact their official spokesperson.

The spokesperson told me she could not understand why Fox News was interested in a simple classroom assignment. She said she would send an official statement but declined to go on the record. I’m still waiting for the “official statement.”

The child’s parents had a similar experience. They contacted the school – hoping to get some answers. Instead, they got the brush-off.

“They made it sound like it was no big deal,” the mom told me. “They said the point of the assignment was because Jay-Z is successful.”

She said one school official even chimed in that the rapper owns a professional sports team.

“I asked him what that had to do with anything,” the parent told me. “Let’s talk about somebody that is a success that has done good things – not thug life things.”

Using the school’s logic, the mom wondered why the school doesn’t assign lessons on Hugh Hefner or Larry Flynt.

“Either way, it’s all the same,” she said.

She said the same school official told her that no matter who they assigned the kids to learn about – that person would have something negative in their past.

“We are conservative,” she said. “We are Christian. And this was brought into my house. That’s why I was so furious. It was a moral issue.”

The little boy’s father was so livid that the school brushed off his wife he decided to write a letter to the school district:

“The page sent home was an eye-opener and I refuse to have my son subjected to today’s version on what should be accepted as okay and normal without knowing the facts,” the dad wrote.

“The facts are this page represented this thug in a positive way and calls him successful. Success to me doesn’t mean demeaning women, glorifying drugs and violence and flaunting money. Success should be about living decent and having respect for themselves and others.”

And to put an exclamation point on his reasoning, the dad included the lyrics to a Jay-Z song. I’d love to share some of those lyrics with you – but I’ve got standards. Let’s just say, Jay-Z has an affinity for the F-word and the B-word.

Heather Fox is not surprised to learn about the three-day Jay-Z lecture at the middle school. She runs a Facebook page called “Desoto County Reform” – an online gathering place for parents concerned about the school district.

“Hopefully we can address the issues that most people are afraid to address out loud,” she told me. “The school district is not happy about our website.”

“We know there are students at the high school who’ve had to read explicit books,” she said. “And now we know about the Jay-Z class.”

Fox said the sixth grade assignment was not age appropriate.

“A lot of the kids don’t know anything about the things that surround Jay-Z – it’s something that a lot of parents are concerned about,” Fox said. “Why make them exposed to it at such an early age?”

It’s really unfortunate that the school superintendent won’t talk to me about the assignment. I’d love to hear his side of the story. But the school district’s silence makes me a bit suspicious.

If there’s nothing wrong with the assignment, what’s there to hide? Why brush off a concerned parent who has a valid concern about what her child is learning?

The mom told me the school made a “bad, bad choice” – and now she and her husband are about to make a choice.

“It really makes me want to either send him to a private school or homes school,” she said. – Via FoxNews

Take That, Take That! Diddy Tops 2013 Forbes Top 20 Money Maker List

Time to break out the Ciroc! Diddy can still claim the King of NY title as he topped Forbes’  annual Top 10 Earners in the Hip Hop industry list. This is one of the few lists in life where I wouldn’t even mind being last.

Diddy pulled in $50 million over the past 12 months thanks to his Bad Boy record label, Sean John clothing line, and Blue Flame marketing agency. But the bulk of his earnings comes from his deal with Diageo’s Ciroc vodka.

His fellow New Yorker Jay Z earned $43 million and claims the second spot on the list with his tour, Armand de Brignac champagne, D’Ussé cognac, and Roc Nation label and management firm. He also collected $5 million from Samsung, who purchased 1 million copies of his album Magna Carta… Holy Grail.

Last year’s top earner Dr. Dre falls to No. 3 with $40 million following his nine-figure payout for the 2011 sale of Beats by Dr. Dre.

Nicki Minaj is the only female on the list at No. 4 with $29 million, edging out her YMCMB brothers Birdman, Lil Wayne, and Drake.

Compton’s good kid Kendrick Lamar makes his debut at No. 14 with $9 million and ties with newcomers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, whose independently released debut The Heist has sold over 1 million copies in the U.S.
