Harvard Student Obasi Shaw Submits Hip Hop Album As Final Thesis & Graduates With Honors [ALBUM AUDIO]

Hip Hop music just accomplished another feat after an Ivy League student, Obasi Shaw, will be graduating with honors after submitting a 10-track rap album as his final thesis. He’s the first-ever student to do so in Harvard’s illustrious history! Check out the details below…

Titled Liminal Minds, Shaw spent a year writing the project. Each song is told from the perspective of a different character, supposedly inspired by Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales. It focuses on black identity in America and was awarded summa cum laude minus, which is the second highest grade in the department.

This is not the first moment of recognition that Harvard has bestowed upon the hip-hop genre. Kendrick Lamar’s album To Pimp A Butterfly, as well as NasIllmatic, were both added to the Harvard Library in an “acknowledgement of their cultural significance.”

This is what Harvard University posted on its Instagram page regarding Obasi’s album…

This is dope! Harvard seems to really respeckognize (respect & recognize) Hip Hop music? “Pilgrims”, the 2nd track, is more like spoken word but he killed it! We love the content of his lyrics and the fact that he’s rapping strictly for the love of it while still pursuing his software engineering career. Shout out to Obasi for this tremendous achievement and we wish him nothing but the best!
